PHYSICS65 - Thermodynamics and Foundations of Modern Physics
(Third in a three-part series: 61,63,65.) For students with a strong high school mathematics and physics background contemplating a major in Physics or interested in a rigorous treatment of physics. Advanced freshman physics. The fundamental structure of classical physics including Newtonian mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves, optics, thermodynamics. Foundations of modern physics including special relativity, atomic structure, quantization of light, matter waves and the Schrödinger equation. Prerequisites: high school physics and familiarity with calculus (differentiation and integration in one variable). Pre- or corequisite: MATH 53. GERs: DB-NatSci
